First Aid Training: Extramural Activities That Benefit From First Aid Training

First aid training is an indispensable skill in educational environments. Not only is it beneficial for educators, but it is also essential for coaches in extracurricular activities and extramural sports. It is important to be prepared for any injuries and emergencies that may arise. Sports like rugby, hockey and soccer are partially known to have both major and minor injuries occur, that is why as a school you should invest in professional training for your staff.

As the caretakers in these environments, first aid expertise ensures the protection and safety of students under the coach's care. EMCARE is an advantageous option for all your training needs. We offer all levels of first aid training with accredited and highly experienced instructors.

In this article, we introduce you to our first aid courses and why extramural activities should prioritise safety to maximise the benefits for students.

The Benefits Of Extramural Activities

There are many benefits of encouraging school children to be involved with extramural activities. Movement and exercise promote healthy lifestyles and perseverance. Not only does it impact their physical health, but their mental health as well. It can teach students focus, organisational and planning skills. Working as a team helps students also connect with one another, form bonds and experience less loneliness as they grow.

As children grow into their high school careers, extramural activities teach stress and time management that will enable better-coping skills later in their lives. Now that we know some benefits of extramural activities - let us get into why first aid is crucial as a consequence.

The Importance Of First Aid Training In Extramurals

Students should be able to experience these benefits safely - knowing they are well taken care of. Extramurals are valuable in all stages of their development, from children in kindergarten - right until the end of high school. If an emergency occurs that might impact a child's ability to partake in extracurricular activities - whether temporarily or permanently - it might impact the growth of a child's development and connections with those around them.

Equipping adults who are caring for children with appropriate and efficient skills to care for them in all cases and respond if injuries occur - is prudent. There are three levels of first aid that can be presented to educators and coaches, and with a leading training company like EMCARE - you can trust the necessary knowledge is being imparted.

When training with EMCARE you are being supplied with specialised training equipment and instructors curated for comfort. Training can be done with local language instructors for groups larger than ten, or travel to your premises for groups larger than eight. This applies to all three levels of first aid training.

Our first aid courses are offered in three distinct levels which are all specific to beginner, intermediate or advanced knowledge and acquired skill sets:

  • First Aid Level 1:
This is generally a beginner course. It introduces emergency care and equips you with basic first-aid knowledge to react in the event of an emergency. It covers one rescuer's adult CPR, fractures, choking, wounds and bleeding among other modules.

Theoretical knowledge is also taught in this level of training with modules like the legal implications and ethics related to emergency care and emergency scene management being covered. It is the ideal course if you would like to give educators and extramural instructors proficient elementary first aid knowledge.

  • First Aid Level 2:
For some fiercer sports or ones that risk more injuries to students - first aid level 2 should be considered. Level 2 first aid training provides participants with a more extensive knowledge of emergency care and is designed to cover more detailed subjects. Modules like joint injuries, chest and eye injuries, environmental illnesses and injuries are covered. The theoretical modules also include elementary and applied anatomy and physiology.

Another beneficial aspect of these practical and theoretical modules - is that they equip coaches and educators to effectively communicate with higher-level medical care. Giving the appropriate information and offering meticulous help in the meantime is integral to long-term recovery and short-term relief.

  • First Aid Level 3:
When looking for overall skills in medical care or working particularly with younger age groups - first aid training at level 3 is valuable. First aid level 3 is often encouraged for educators as it is the highest level of training.

For instance, special patients and emergency oxygen therapy are taught alongside water-related emergencies. Extramurals like swimming, sailing, diving, and canoeing would be safer when coaches and instructors have first aid level 3 training.

All three levels have both written and practical aspects that are tested in order to further encourage long-term retention of knowledge taught during the first aid training sessions. Additionally, all three levels are accredited with certifications that are valid for three years. Level 1 is taught over two days, level 2 is instructed over three days and finally, level 3 is completed in four days.
