First Aid Course: Professions That Require Advanced Training

First Aid Course: Professions That Require Advanced Training

A first aid course that is highly recommended across essential workers is first aid level 3. This course is valuable for those who work as supervisors, in hazardous conditions or as a precaution in communities without access to health care services. Additionally, it is ideal for Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) and first responders. The advanced theoretical knowledge, in addition to the practical demonstrations and tests, equips these professionals to react timeously and safely in emergencies.

In this article, we look at the skillsets you will learn in a level three course from EMCARE. We are a health and safety training centre that offers expertise, experience, and accreditation. The article then goes on to discuss the professions that will benefit from this training. Continue reading below to see how EMCARE's first aid training will prepare you in your field of work.

You are in expert hands with facilitators who have higher qualifications or a minimum of 1000 hours of work experience in the relevant course field. Some of the courses we offer include firefighting, safety officer courses and all three levels of first aid.

Below we go into depth for our level 3 first aid training in particular. More information on the other levels can be found on our website.

First Aid Course: Level 3

EMCARE's level 3 course is advanced training. Level 1 and 2 training needs to be completed before continuing to this level, which builds on those skills. More depth is gone into a variety of emergencies, along with practical demonstrations. This includes emergency childbirth and water-related emergencies. Other course content includes behavioural emergencies as well as special patients and emergency oxygen therapy.

Besides first aid level 1 and level 2 certificates, proficiency in English reading and writing is required. However, local language instructors can be requested for classes when there are groups larger than 10. Our level three first aid course is available at all EMCARE branches, and at your premises if your group consists of eight or more. Keep in mind if training is done at your premises, additional charges may be incurred. What is included in the first aid course base price includes A4 certificates, learner manuals as well as training and presentation equipment. The certificate is valid for three years and is accredited by the Department of Labour.

The quality alignment for our first aid course includes:

  • Department of Labour (DOL)
  • Department of Minerals & Energy (DME)
  • FPMSETA
  • HWSETA

Ideal Professions For First Aid Training

  1. Emergency Response Teams
ERT's role in medical emergencies is to provide effective and timely care in emergencies. First aid training at level 3 better prepares ERTs and contributes to organisational safety before an emergency even arises. ERTs are able to prepare the appropriate equipment and use it accurately during an emergency after completing a first aid course.

  2. First Responders
First responders refer to professions like firefighters or the police. Sometimes they can show up before ambulances or emergency teams, and it is imperative that they can provide medical care in the interim. Additionally, theoretical knowledge aids in the communication and evacuation of an emergency often conducted by first responders. They have the skillset and confidence with a first aid course level three.

  3. Security Professionals
Security professionals do not know what or who they may come into contact with. A first aid course not only equips professionals like armed responders on health - but also on additional safety measures. Security professionals are also often responsible for calling for additional help in large-scale emergencies, and having the correct knowledge of emergency care equips them to communicate with ERTs and first responders both before and after events.

  4. Lifeguards
Level 3 specifically covers water-based emergencies and multiple rescuer CPR. These are essential for lifeguards to be prepared for the practical aspects of their profession. A first aid course allows them to have hands-on experience with equipment, CPR training and demonstrations.

  5. Educators
Educators play a significant role in the supervision and care of children. It is the responsibility of teachers to ensure the health and safety of students in the classroom. The level 3 course provides the skills to handle emergency situations that can arise and even behavioural emergencies. The knowledge and skills learnt during the first aid course will also make parents more comfortable and a school more desirable. So, not only is it practically imperative - but it is financially beneficial.
