3 Reasons Why Educators Should Have First Aid Training

First aid training provides invaluable skills to those in supervision roles. It also equips you with the knowledge to care for those who cannot aid themselves. Educators play both supervision roles in classrooms and care for children who lack the necessary skills to aid themselves in an emergency. Whether you are an educator at a primary or secondary educational level, first aid offers a safer environment.

Being trained by accredited and professional agencies ensures educators are equipped with the appropriate proficiency in first aid and receive a certificate which indicates this proficiency. EMCARE is a leading health and safety training centre that not only provides expert training, but you walk away with a valid certificate. In this article, we go more into detail on how training in first aid creates a safer environment, and why EMCARE should be your first choice for first aid courses.

1. Environmental Safety

Schools rely on educators to care for not only students' intellectual growth but also their physical well-being. A school or institution with educators who are proficiently trained in first aid ensures the protection and care of students. When there are capable educators to help in an emergency - children, parents and students can feel more safe and secure. It also means that there is someone to keep the situation under control, prevent panic and call for more assistance if necessary.

2. Chronic Condition Awareness

Children can suffer from many chronic conditions that educators need to be aware of. Anything from an asthma attack to a seizure can happen in a classroom or lecture hall. Having the foresight and preventative exposure to these situations through training - will better equip educators. Holistically, the theoretical knowledge in first aid training will better prepare educators for emergencies that may commonly arise, especially with younger children.

3. Effective Care Management

First aid training promotes a quick response time, seconds make the difference and having the confidence and knowledge to assess situations and make decisions is assured. Not only will chronic conditions be more known and accounted for, but educators will be equipped with equipment training. Defibrillators are one such equipment often present in schools, making sure educators are using equipment safely is also assured with an EMCARE first aid course.

First Aid Training

EMCARE offers four first aid courses. The first is a basic first aid course that covers basic medical care and legal implications and ethics in regard to emergency care. The second is a first aid level 1 course. This provides training that builds on the basics and focuses on increasing practical skills. Next, is our intermediate level 2 course- which is targeted to provide more developed skills and extensive emergency care knowledge. It goes into more detail about paediatric patients and multiple rescuer CPR. Finally, our level 3 course is the most advanced training available. In this course, emergency care in a wider variety of situations is covered with extensive practical training.

All four courses have different durations to complete, but upon completion, you receive a certificate that is accredited by the Department of Labour. This certificate is valid for three years. The only requisite for any of our first aid training levels is to be able to read and write in English. However, local language instructors can be requested for groups over 10. Additionally, you require a first aid level 1 certificate to do the level 2 course and the same minimum qualification is needed for level 3 with a level 2 certificate. All first aid courses are offered at all EMCARE branches. Facilitators can travel to your premises for groups larger than 8 upon request.
