In the following section we will explore some of the key programmes we have available. The fire fighting course and training programs we have at EMCARE is vast and caters to different levels of expertise.
First up, is the Basic Fire Awareness Course or BFA which is a beginner's level, half-day training programme tailored towards those who are seeking to equip themselves with some of the fundamentals in fire safety knowledge.
It is specifically designed as a means to equip learners with essential skills to navigate, including knowing how to extinguish an unexpected fire in a work or home environment. Because the course is elementary, it will provide participants with confidence and skill to follow important safety protocols while understanding the basics of firefighting equipment.
Successful completion means that learners will also receive a certification valid for up to two years. In order to participate, learners need only to have basic English literacy, as instructors are required to provide the training to diverse groups. However, some instructors are able to provide the same training in local languages depending on the requirements of the group, and provided that the group is large enough.
Second, we have the Advanced Fire Fighting Course or AFF which is for participants who want a more in-depth understanding and practical application of fire fighting techniques. This course is a two-day programme and focuses on the practicality of fire fighting training techniques to give participants a hands-on application of skills and the knowledge to operate fire fighting equipment safely.
These courses also place significant emphasis on fire prevention and rescue, where the second day centres on practical fire fighting demonstrations on fire department grounds to equip learners with an immersive and safe environment within which to learn. This course also holds a validity of two years with a certificate on completion.
Finally, we have our Fire Fighter I and II Skills Programmes which are for individuals who are aspiring to garner a career in professional fire fighting. For this, EMCARE offers two intensive Fire Fighter I and II Hazmat Operation courses which are largely geared towards career advancement in the field as well as providing a comprehensive and robust foundation.
The Fire Fighter I and Hazmat Awareness Course is an intensive nine-week programme which is vital in the progression towards a full-time fire fighting career. Before one can enrol, candidates are required to complete our Basic Fire Awareness, Basic Fire Fighting and Intermediate Fire Fighting courses.
Building upon these courses, the curriculum is rigorous and extensive and covers a myriad of topics. This extends to orientation, fire fighting service history, fire fighting safety, health, construction, fire behaviour, handling of personal protective equipment (PPE), portable fire extinguishers, ropes and knots, structural navigation, victim removal, forcible entry, ground ladders and water supply/application.
One of the key components to The Fire Fighter I and Hazmat Awareness Course is that it provides an important basic understanding of safety control and procedures when working with unpredictable and dangerous goods.
Our Fire Fighter II and Hazmat Operations Course follows the Fire Fighter I course. This is a seven-week programme which aims to build upon skills and knowledge obtained in the previous course to equip fire fighters with the skills to facilitate emergency situations which are more complex which require expertise in advanced hazardous material handling.
Above and beyond the courses mentioned here, EMCARE also offers a wide range of complementary specialised courses which can complement basic fire fighting training. This includes the Breathing Apparatus Course (SCBA), Hazardous Material Handling Course (HMH) and the Confined Space Entry Course (CS).
With these courses and the thorough training provided by The Fire Fighter I and Hazmat Awareness Course and the Fire Fighter II and Hazmat Operations Course, EMCARE creates a comprehensive path for anyone who is interested in fire safety. This extends from corporate teams who need basic fire safety awareness, to individuals who want to follow a career in emergency services.
With our commitment to providing high-quality and accredited training, our experienced instructors focus on harnessing practical and real-world skills to ensure that every graduate is well-prepared for the handling of fire emergencies. Through this, our courses not only teach the safe extinguishing of fires but also work towards creating a culture of fire safety, which aims to facilitate a preparedness that can save lives.
